Scott Brown is elected to the Senate from Massachusetts.
January 19, 2010
Brown (R) defeats Massachusetts attorney general Martha Coakley (D), the overwhelming favorites, in a special election for the seat formerly held by Edward Kennedy. In an interview four days before the election, Coakley, responded to criticism for running a lackluster campaign by questioning why such things were expected of her, “Standing outside Fenway Park? In the cold? Shaking hands?” Brown serves until 2013.*
